【摘要】:Thisterminologydefinestermsandspecializedmeaningsoftermsinthesubjectareasofwasteandmanagementofwaste.Thisterminologyisnotintendedforsubjectsotherthanwasteandwastemanagement.Fortermsapplicabletoothersubjectareas,theappropriateterminologystandard(s)shouldbeconsulted.SeethecurrenteditionoftheCompilationofASTMStandardDefinitionsandthelistofterminologystandardscitedtherein.Standardsrelatingtosubcategoriesofwasteorwastemanagementmayusetermsdefinedmorenarrowlythanthoseincludedhere.Themorespecializedterminologystandardsrelatingtotheapplicablespecificsubcategory,ortermsdefinedwithinindividualstandards,orboth,shouldbeconsultedfortheexactmeaningintendedwithinagivenstandard.TheThesaurusonResourceRecoveryTerminology(SpecialTechnicalPublication(STP)832)containsmanytermsandmaybeusefulforthosenotlistedinterminologystandards.However,adefinitioninastandardterminologyshallbeconsideredgoverningwhenthetermisusedinthesenseormeaningdefinedtherein.Statisticaltermsarenotdefinedinthisterminologytotheextentthattheterms,whenusedregardingwasteandmanagementofwaste,havethesamemeaningsasinPracticeE177orTerminologyE456.Regulatorytermsareoftendevelopedbyregulatoryagenciesforspecialregulatorypurposesandmayhavetechnicalcontentormeaningdifferentfromtermsdefinedherein.Whenaregulatorytermexiststhatdiffersinmeaningfromatermgivenhere,theregulatorytermshouldbeconsideredtotakeprecedenceforregulatorymatters.1.1Thisterminologycontainsstandarddefinitionsoftermsusedinthegeneralareaofwasteandwastemanagement.ItisintendedtopromoteunderstandingbyprovidingprecisetechnicaldefinitionsoftermsusedinthestandardsdevelopedbyCommitteeD34anditssubcommittees.1.2Termsusedonlywithinanindividualstandard,andhavingameaninguniquetothatstandard,maybedefinedorexplainedintheterminologysectionofthatindividualstandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
